  • Prevent & Reduce Stunting in Children (0-6years) @2 % perannum
  • Prevent & Reduce Under Nutrition in Children (0-6years) @2 % perannum
  • Reduce Low Birth Weight (LBW) @2% per annum
  • Reduce Prevalence of Anaemia amongst Young Children (06-59 months) @3 % per annum
  • Reduce Prevalence of Anaemia amongst Women and AdolescentGirls (15-49 years) @3 % per annum

  • POSHAN Abhiyaan was launched in Tamil Nadu by in 8th March 2018 by Hon'ble Minister for Social welfare and Nutritious Meal Program Department.
  • Tamil Nadu targets to reduce level of under-nutrition and other related problems by ensuring effective convergence of various nutrition related schemes along with line departments.
  • Totally 20,150 smartphones with Powerbank is procured, configured and supplied to 18,573 AWC's for Implementation of CAS APP in the field of 11 districts.
  • Each of 18,573 Growth Monitoring Devices(Infantometer, Stadiometer, Infant Weighing scale, Mother & Child Digital weighing Scale) is supplied and through that device, monitoring of height, weight is measured and entering in CAS-APP continues.
  • New head of account has been opened and funds have been released along with state share in the ratio of 80:20.



Implementation Strategy

Implementation strategy is based on intense monitoring and Convergence Action Plan right from the grass root level to State Level.

POSHAN Abhiyaan is being rolled out in Two phases from 2017-18 in Five Districts namely Ariyalur, Chennai, Dindugul, Villupuram & The Niligiris. In 2018-19, another Six districts namely Kanniyakumari, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Tiruvallur, Tiruchirapalli, Ramanathapuram is being rolled out. For remaining 21 Districts, Inprinciple approval is being approved and will be rolled out in 2019-2020 shortly.

GoI has included Tamil Nadu into list of priority States from March 2019 and MoU has been signed between Go I, IBRD and Tamilnadu State Government in April 2019.



  • Tamil Nadu is the first state to launch ICDS-CAS App in all 18,573 A WCs by a week's time after distribution of mobile phones.
  • Daily feeding is done 100 % in AW Cs and the data is captured same as well as in CAS APP as well.
  • As of today 2,21,447 Community Based Events and 1,20,421 VHSN Day and training of 1 to 13 modules on Incremental Learning Approach has been conducted in 11 Poshan Abhiyaan districts.
